Policy
Privacy Policy
Effective date Dec 20, 2024
Heard of You™ respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we may share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have when using the Heard of You™ website, studio, memorial pages, journals, and related features.
By using Heard of You™, you acknowledge that your information will be handled as described in this Privacy Policy.
Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to information collected through Heard of You™, including the website, the studio, manual journal features, memorial-related features, and integrations with third-party services such as Google, Spotify, and Apple Music.
Information we collect
We may collect information you provide directly when you use Heard of You™. This may include journal entries, memory notes, song titles, artists, chapter labels, names, contributor names, reflections, memorial-related content, and messages you send to us.
If you choose to use Google sign-in or a Google-linked save feature, we may collect limited account information needed to authenticate you and support saved journal syncing. Heard of You™ does not ask for your Google password directly.
If you choose to use Spotify or Apple Music features, we may receive limited information needed to support those features, such as authorization-related information and information needed to search, display, or work with music content within the service. Heard of You™ does not ask for your Spotify or Apple password directly.
We may also collect basic technical and usage information such as browser type, device type, session information, approximate usage information, and diagnostic information needed for security, reliability, troubleshooting, and product improvement.
Some information may also be stored locally in your browser on your device, including journal content, settings, temporary save state, and sync-related information.
How we use information
We use information to operate, provide, maintain, secure, and improve Heard of You™.
This includes using information to save and display journals, support manual entry, support memorial and storytelling features, enable Google-linked save and sync features, enable Spotify and Apple Music-related functionality you request, maintain local copies that support continuity of use, retry syncing when a prior sync attempt does not complete, respond to support or privacy requests, prevent misuse, and comply with legal obligations.
Local storage and synced journals
Heard of You™ may store journal-related information in more than one place depending on the feature you use.
For manual journals, information may be stored locally in your browser on your device and may also be synced through a Google-linked save flow where that feature is enabled. Local storage helps preserve your work on the device you are using. Synced storage can help support continuity, recovery, or access where available.
In some cases, a sync may not complete immediately because of connectivity issues, browser issues, authentication issues, service interruptions, or other technical reasons. Where supported, Heard of You™ may keep the information needed to retry syncing later.
Because Heard of You™ is still evolving, local storage and synced storage may not always behave identically. We do not guarantee uninterrupted syncing, permanent storage, or complete recovery of all content. You should keep your own copy of anything important.
Third-party services
Heard of You™ may rely on or connect with third-party services such as Google, Spotify, and Apple Music. If you choose to use those services through Heard of You™, we may receive limited information necessary to operate the feature you requested.
Your use of those third-party services is also governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Heard of You™ is not responsible for the privacy practices, content, or policies of third-party platforms.
When we may share information
Heard of You™ does not sell your personal information.
We may share information in limited circumstances. We may share information with service providers or technical vendors who help operate, host, secure, maintain, or support the service. We may share information with third-party platforms when needed to carry out a feature you request. We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to protect users, rights holders, the service, or the public. Information may also be shared as part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring, financing, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law.
Memorial and personal content
Heard of You™ may involve memory-based, family-based, or memorial-related content. If you submit content relating to another person, you are responsible for having any rights, permissions, authority, or other basis reasonably needed to do so.
You should not submit content you do not have the right to share. If you believe content relating to you was submitted without permission, you may contact us and we will review the request in good faith.
Data retention
We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including operating the service, maintaining security, supporting sync- or recovery-related functions, resolving disputes, complying with legal obligations, and enforcing our terms.
Locally stored data may remain on your device until you delete it, your browser clears it, or your device settings remove it. Synced data, where available, may remain in connected storage until deleted through the service, removed by you, or no longer reasonably needed for the operation of the feature.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect information, but no website, app, storage method, or transmission method is completely secure. Because Heard of You™ is still in beta, features and storage methods may change over time as the service develops.
Your choices
Depending on how you use Heard of You™, you may be able to clear local browser storage, disconnect third-party services, stop using the service, or contact us to ask questions or request review of content you personally submitted.
If you use Google, Spotify, or Apple Music through Heard of You™, you may also have privacy and access controls through those services directly.
Children
Heard of You™ is not intended for use by children without appropriate involvement and permission from a parent, guardian, or other authorized adult where required by law.
International use
If you access Heard of You™ from outside Canada, you understand that your information may be processed in Canada or in other places where service providers supporting the platform operate, subject to applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Your continued use of Heard of You™ after the updated policy takes effect means you acknowledge the revised policy.
