Updates
Heard of You is an evolving project. This page shares product progress, feature updates, and beta milestones.
Current status
Known issues
- Some sync features may still behave differently across providers and browsers.
- Spotify may also create more than one playlist after adding new music in a new session.
- Link circulation does not seem to be working yet, so users cannot be approved or denied through the owner dashboard.
Next steps
- With the rollout of Memorials on March 27, we became aware of some privacy concerns, and in the coming weeks we will work to improve clarity around the product.
- Continue improving reliability and provider specific flows.
- Working on product demo.
- We are also working toward iOS and Android apps.

Memorial feature rollout
We have rolled out the first version of the Memorials feature. I am excited about this part of Heard of You and the sharing functions it begins to introduce into the project.
This is the first rollout of this feature, so I expect there are still bugs and rough spots we need to fix. If you run into issues or need help troubleshooting, please email contact@heardofyou.org.
I also understand that privacy matters even more here. Memorial pages still require Google sign-in and invite access, and we will keep refining the privacy and moderation side of this experience as the feature develops.
Future
The last few days have been extremely busy, with a lot of overtime spent rolling out new features and patching current bugs. While I wish this were the pace we could keep all the time, it is not sustainable, and it would never lead to a polished product. This v0.2 rollout has been incredible so far.
Looking ahead, one of our longer-term goals is to return to our core Spotify and Apple Music flows, patch them up properly, and keep working toward integrating them into the Memorials feature over time.
During these last few days, we have also received a few questions about pricing, future endowments, and advertising. While we are truly grateful that people are already thinking about those possibilities, we currently have no intention to monetize, in keeping with the direction outlined on our About page.
End of life is already difficult enough as it is, and monetization would move this project too far away from what it originally came from. As of now, we have no requirements or obligations to any outside organizations.
Volunteer
At the moment, this project has been running on pure adrenaline and the excitement of seeing the product become functional, or close to it. As expected, that pace is not sustainable.
Over time, we hope to adopt a volunteer-run model for in-person outreach, events, and community support. With that in mind, we are opening the door to thoughtful and passionate people who may want to help move this project into its next stage.
If you are interested, please email contact@heardofyou.org with the subject line "Volunteer." If you would like, you may include a brief introduction, and the next steps will be shared by email. We are genuinely grateful to anyone who may want to be part of this.
Please note that, for now, we are only accepting volunteers for in-person support in Calgary.
This may be the final update here for a few weeks. Even so, we are still hard at work improving.

A note on what shaped this project
As this project slowly begins to move beyond its earliest stage, I have been thinking about how it started and what shaped it. That reflection feels true to what Heard of You has always been about. This year, as I finish my undergraduate degree, I have found myself thinking more seriously about the ideas that have stayed with me over time and what it means to finally try to build something from them.
A large part of that story comes back to music. From a young age, music shaped the way I understood memory, connection, and expression. Over time, that stayed with me and became a big part of what inspired this project. Heard of You grew from the belief that music can carry parts of our lives in a way few other things can, and from the desire to build something that treats those memories with care.

Still moving under the hood
The project is still moving under the hood, but I wanted to take some time to share a quick update. Today I do not have a major feature update, but I can confirm that within the next three months we should be able to see the first alpha build.

One year update
I am truly grateful for the inquiries, thoughtful questions, and feedback this project has received in its early stage. It has meant a great deal to see people take the time to explore the idea and share their thoughts. That encouragement has not gone unnoticed.
At this time, I am not able to share any new updates or a development timeline. Still, I want to acknowledge the patience and understanding people have shown as this early version continues to take shape. Your support matters, and I sincerely appreciate you following along.
This project has always been connected to memory, meaning, and the people who stay with us. In that sense, In My Life feels like a fitting note to end on. Thank you for being here.

Early build preparation
I am preparing for development by reviewing the core user flow, deciding what the first version needs most, and keeping the project focused on a clean first experience.

Structure and feature planning
I am refining the main feature set and narrowing the first version to a smaller and more realistic scope. The focus right now is building a simple foundation first.
November 2024
Early planning progress
I am organizing the project into clearer parts, including memory creation, music service connections, and privacy considerations. The goal is to move from idea to a workable plan.
September 2024
Concept refinement
I am working on the basic direction of the project, including the overall flow, user experience goals, and the first rough ideas for how a personal studio could work.
July 2024
Early vision
I am starting to shape the idea for Heard of You as a music based memory project. The early focus is on the core idea, how memories connect to songs, and what the experience should feel like.
